Riding the Waves - a short story of 148 words

There was a competition in MsLexia writing magazine, and it gave me the idea for this story which I wrote immediately – they said to write something along the lines of ‘Riding the Waves’ in up to 150 words.  It is very basic, but I thought I would upload it anyway……

Riding the waves (148 words) –

I was riding the surf that day, when I found out.  Perched skilfully on my board, I had just caught a wave and was flying through the air atop the sea and froth.  It was exhilarating, and the adrenalin rush was really helping me to cheer up; just what I had needed.

A whole month with a miserable, distant husband was wearing me down.  I didn’t know why he was like that, as we had been so close the last nine years we had been together – maybe it was a mid-life crisis or the death of his mother two months before.

As the wave dispersed and dropped me down into the water, I just happened to glance onto the beach.  There was my husband…… with a woman.  They were kissing passionately.

I am now happier and I ride the waves over a hundred miles away from my ex-husband.
