Tasty Bites Benfleet restaurant Essex Burger and chips

This is a café situated in the High Road, South Benfleet always seems to be busy whatever time of day, and it deserves to be.

They offer a fast service, freshly cooked food, and a large menu including pie mash and liquor, roast dinners on Sundays, burgers, full breakfasts and much more.

My Mum likes it too, and she is a good critic!

Giraffe exterior Lakeside Essex

I visited this restaurant for the first time recently, as chips and burgers and that kind of food are only an occasional treat as it’s unhealthy.

We tried the ribs, chips, corn on the cob, onion rings and chicken pieces. All was tasty and hot and pleasantly served by our waitress.

This fairly large restaurant has some nice comfy booths to relax in and the service is relaxed yet efficient.

I will visit again, when I fancy that kind of cuisine when I am shopping at Lakeside.

Bobby Jo’s American Diner restaurant review, Southend on Sea, Essex

Bobby Jos diner southend essex

This diner opened in February 2010, so we quickly tried it out, keen to find a local diner. The restaurant has been fitted out really nicely, with booths and a great pink colour scheme and the waitresses have cute 1950’s uniforms, so it is in keeping with the theme. There is also some memorabilia dotted about and question and answer cards on each table about different celebrities from the 50’s.

The menu is typical diner style and we ordered a hotdog, plain burger, chips and jalapenos, but I have to say that it was disappointing. Maybe we have been spoilt with gourmet burgers, but the hotdog was pretty average and the burger bland. The chips looked good, but were undercooked a little, so we only ate about half our meal. The star of the meal was my banana malted milkshake, which was made with fresh banana (as are all of their milkshakes) and it was absolutely lovely!

I am not sure if we will be back, but if we do, perhaps we would try the ribs or chicken….

To be honest, I did go to Nando’s a few times, but I haven’t been for a little while. I would go again, but I find their ‘queue to get order your food’ service a bit of a shame, as I like to be served.

If you like chicken, salad, chips, rice and various peri peri sauces then you will like it. I have not been to many other Nando’s in other places, apart from Basildon, so I cannot compare them, but the service is average in Southend on Sea and I prefer Basildon for service.

It is a little overpriced in a way since it is counter ordering, but there isn’t anywhere else around that does this type of food.

We love the chicken, side salad, corn on the cob, coleslaw, fries and the spicy rice, as well as the red pepper and houmous starters.

Just burgers at GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen) with great chips,, coleslaw and salads. Huge selection of burgers, including beef, lamb, pork and vegetarian to choose from. The veggie falafel burger is my favourite but this one at Lakeside, Essex is not as good as the GBK at Brighton and the greek lamb burger with hummous and salad is moist and tasty.

Although basic, the wooden and bench seats are quite comfortable and it has a feature wall with changing colours. We arrived early, but by 8pm it was really busy. Excellent service and they get the drinks for you, although you order food at the counter.
