Tasty Bites Benfleet restaurant Essex Burger and chips

This is a café situated in the High Road, South Benfleet always seems to be busy whatever time of day, and it deserves to be.

They offer a fast service, freshly cooked food, and a large menu including pie mash and liquor, roast dinners on Sundays, burgers, full breakfasts and much more.

My Mum likes it too, and she is a good critic!

Giraffe exterior Lakeside Essex

I visited this restaurant for the first time recently, as chips and burgers and that kind of food are only an occasional treat as it’s unhealthy.

We tried the ribs, chips, corn on the cob, onion rings and chicken pieces. All was tasty and hot and pleasantly served by our waitress.

This fairly large restaurant has some nice comfy booths to relax in and the service is relaxed yet efficient.

I will visit again, when I fancy that kind of cuisine when I am shopping at Lakeside.

Oldhams fish and chips Essex

My Mum and Dad took me to this restaurant for fish or chicken and chips when I was little and I remember them giving me a lollipop if I finished my meal. It was only recently that I went back with my Mum to try it again, many years later.

The waitress, who has worked there for 25 years, remembered my Mum and I straight away, which was lovely, and she hardly looked any different at all! Anyway, down to food – well, it’s the best in the Southend area, that is for sure – the chips golden and not greasy at all and the batter on our plaice crispy and dry – beautiful!

Fresh crispy rolls, wine and beer on offer, and various other fish, meat and vegetarian choices, this is a great choice.

It is fairly small though, so you may have to wait for a table, but it will be worth it.

‘The Arches’ on the seafront of Westcliff on sea’ are a row of café/restaurants offering an assortment of British dishes, including roast dinners and fish and chips, but they are variable. For a long time, I didn’t keep a note of the ones I did or didn’t like, until recently, due to getting let down at the more inferior ones.

The Riverside is the last one I went to and I do believe it is my favourite, since I remember the restaurant as being double the size of the others.

We had a full English breakfast, and it was lovely – all freshly cooked and very good quality ingredients – the bacon and sausage in particular. We did try a different one first, but on asking if they used bloomer bread, they said no, and so we tried the Riverside which had fresh bloomer on offer. To me, that is the ultimate bread for a breakfast – who needs sliced bread (wonder loaf)? (it is particularly bad for me since I don’t promote eating the palm oil used in most sliced bread).

The staff are friendly and efficient and it’s nice and warm inside in the winter, unlike some of the others.

Elms Wetherspoons restaurant review, Leigh on Sea, Essex

I went here with my friend as a cheap night out, as they are pretty good for a Thursday curry night. We had a curry each, which came with rice, naan and mango chutney in a pre packaged pot. I have been to Wetherspoons often in the past, and know what to expect from the food, but it is such a good deal at under £6 including a drink, that one cannot expect too much. It was hot enough, but lacks in actual flavour of spice, but the naan and chutney were fine. Compared to other Wetherspoons, this one is just as good, but it is a huge pub and the layout, with booths and alcoves to sit in made it really cosy in a way. I cannot complain because of the price, but personally I would rather pay more and get better food, as I don’t like to eat lots of salt for health reasons.

We visited this restaurant only because we were attending the X Factor event for Olly Murs nearby, but it was pretty good. I have been to Beefeaters a few times, and this is one of the better ones locally, including the Haywain, as I found the Watermill very average. It’s basic grills and dishes, but they do offer a lot more variety now, and a good selection of wines at good prices.

The restaurant area is rambling, cosy and comfortable and the staff are friendly and efficient. We were in a rush to eat, and they accommodated us well.

Hall Farm in Essex

My brother took me here for breakfast and I am glad he did. It was a sunny day so we sat outside with the views across the fields – very pleasant! It was great for my young nephew, as it is enclosed my fences, so he could run around and play. We had a late breakfast consisting of 2 egg, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, flat mushroom and grilled tomato, and it was delicious – all fresh and quality ingredients. I took a peek at some of the lunches other diners had, and they looked really good, so if I am in the area again, I will certainly drop in for a meal.

In the front area, they have pigs and guinea pigs so nice for children, and a shop with farm foodstuffs and gifts. A very pleasant stop.

To be honest, I did go to Nando’s a few times, but I haven’t been for a little while. I would go again, but I find their ‘queue to get order your food’ service a bit of a shame, as I like to be served.

If you like chicken, salad, chips, rice and various peri peri sauces then you will like it. I have not been to many other Nando’s in other places, apart from Basildon, so I cannot compare them, but the service is average in Southend on Sea and I prefer Basildon for service.

It is a little overpriced in a way since it is counter ordering, but there isn’t anywhere else around that does this type of food.

We love the chicken, side salad, corn on the cob, coleslaw, fries and the spicy rice, as well as the red pepper and houmous starters.
