I have now supplied to South Woodham Ferrers (Essex) Council for their website here: http://www.southwoodhamferrerstc.gov.uk/aerial-photograph  . Also, The Royal Geographical Society bought one for their new project ‘Discovering Britain’ which is a series of walks that will help people to explore and discover the beauty, wildlife and landscapes of Britain. I supplied to them a photo of Two tree Island, Essex.  The website is in progress so my photo and the walks are not on there yet, but do check it out soon and maybe you can discover Britain too! http://www.discoveringbritain.org

Yorkshire Life and Essex Life magazine have printed various photos and on top of that, I have sold Essex, Yorkshire and Orkney Scotland aerial photos to various private buyers, who wanted to give them as presents to loved ones. It’s a great idea as a present, birthday, Christmas or otherwise and I have supplied photos through the postal service as well as emailing j-pegs directly

I have aerial photos of many areas of Britain and my prices are well under other peoples, so if you think I might have a photo to suit, don’t hesitate to ask me.

Egislay Orkney Islands July 2010 Sandra M

I wrote to Pilot magazine recently about Michael and I’s recent flying trip (July 2010) from Essex to the Orkney Islands.  We stayed in Yorkshire and had a fab time, but the Orkneys were something else!  Being a bit of a nervous passenger in the Cessna, I had a bit of a rough journey across the Orkneys, to Westray Island, landing on a 290 metre strip in 45 knot winds, so I shared my story with ‘Pilot’ and they published it with one of my aerial shots of the Orkneys in this months issue (October 2010).  I won £100 worth of Transair vouchers too, so that was a bonus!

The Orkneys were fabulous (wonderful food, hospitality and scenery) but what did it for me was the Puffin and seal watching.  We were lucky enough to be there whilst the Puffins were breeding, and the sight at Castle O’Burrian was absolutely amazing.  We also spotted Grey and Common seals and a whole array of sea birds, including Gannets.

Essex Life magazine have a special tribute to the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain this month (September 2010 issue out on 11th August 2010) and in rememberence, I wanted to take some aerial shots for the magazine of Essex today.  (I will upload them to this page shortly)

Essex life Sandra M Dean photo article May 2010

Essex Life requested some of my photos for a double page article on my photography experience in their ‘Beautiful Essex’ section of the May 2010 edition….

Also, look out for me in the ‘Questionnaire’ on the back page next month!

The main photo is an aerial view of a boat in the Estuary with Southend on Sea, Essex, in the background.  The sun was just right that day, casting shadows across the sails.

The other two photos show and aerial view of Two Tree Island, with Leigh on Sea to the left, and an aerial view of the River Crouch.  The colours are enhanced by the rape fields, giving a vibrant yellow and green effect.

Have you ever….. Canoed the Zambezi – 449 words

“Would you like to come with me to Zambia in a couple of weeks?” my boyfriend asked. I didn’t have to think twice and we embarked on a discovery of this wonderful South African Country. It was utterly fantastic!

were just metres away. We found ourselves alone and suspended on the knife edge bridge, right in the middle of the thundering falls – encompassed in its mist and spray. Being the rainy season, the falls were magnificent and we got very wet!

Ready for some action, we chose to canoe down the Zambezi. Greeted by our really laid back guide we set off in our two man canoes, with another couple. Canoeing was challenging – the river was so flooded, rapids had formed and only the tops of some trees were visible, along with the beady eyes and dinky ears of Hippo’s heads. “Many Hippo’s have just given birth” our guide advised us “So, we must be careful – they will be very protective of their babies. If they get angry or under our canoes, they would have us tipped into the water in a flash”

Within minutes, he started shouting and waving his hands frantically “paddle, paddle, quick!” I had leisurely been taking photos and as I turned round, I caught sight of a Hippo’s head, right behind our canoes – she was hot on our tails and angry as we were in her territory! I threw down my camera and frantically paddled. The next couple of minutes were an adrenalin pumped blur of splashing water, but the hippo realised we were not out to harm her, so stopped the chase eventually. The guide said that we had done really well and our canoe trip would be the last for a few months, due to the flooding and dangers of the Hippo’s!

As we slowed our pace (and hearts) down, we could really enjoy the serene beauty of the Zambezi with the lush land of Zambia on one side and Zimbabwe on the other – where we sighted a large bull Elephant. The skies, the heat of the African sun, the noise of wildlife in the background were amazing.

A ‘flying fox’ experience across the gorge, a micro light trip over the falls, horse riding and a truck safari in the national park filled the rest of our 5 days on the Zambezi, and for wildlife, we were spoilt with sightings of Elephant, Hippo’s, Giraffe, Zebra, Antelope and the last two White Rhino in Zambia. Unfortunately they have been shot by poachers so they are now extinct in Zambia, but I will never forget that canoe trip!

I sent some of my photos taken in Borneo to the BBC Wildlife Magazine, and they published this one this month (July 09 issue).  The BBC Wildlife magazine has articles from all over the World on wildlife and this month I was really pleased to see an article on the birds of two tree Island near me in Benfleet, Essex! 

They accept letters and photos from readers.
